Thanks to Paul Cleveland, residents of a Senior Citizens' Home go fishing!

Mr. Paul Cleveland, Maintenance Mechanic, at "The Pines Health Care and Rehabilitation Center" at Machias, was recently presented with a check from the New York Conservation Officers Association (NYCOA) after our organization learned of a heart-warming deed Mr. Cleveland had performed. Mr. Cleveland, a resident of Olean and 11 year employee of this senior citizen facility, is an avid sportsman. During this past summer, Paul purchased, at his own expense, six senior fishing licenses for senior residents of the

facility who wished to partake in a facility day trip to fish in nearby Harwood Lake. New York State Environmental Conservation Law authorizes a reduced fishing license fee for seniors over 70 years old. When Paul learned that, even with this discounted cost, the event stood to be cost prohibitive for some, he admirably stepped forward, and personally payed the cost of the licenses for all those wishing to fish.

Carol Cunningham, Social Director for "The Pines" stated, "Paul is caring and respectful of all our residents and is routinely involved in activity events".

In presenting this reimbursement check, Lt. Tom Scott of the NYS DEC Division of Law Enforcement, applauded Mr. Cleveland on his selfless and generous action, noting that "Paul's commendable act serves as positive example for us all to follow." The New York Conservation Officers Association is planning to provide additional financial support to this senior citizen facility to cover future license expenses associated with facility sponsored fishing trips.
